At this point, we've figured out how to set up the Raspberry Pi and also be able to ssh into it from a terminal on a client device. However, we only knew the IP address of the device we wanted to ssh into after being connected physically and typing in ifconfig to find the local IP address.
It might be of interest to get an externally visible IP address so that you can log into your little RasPi from anywhere. This is possible, and there are a number of services that can help you accomplish this for just a little bit of cash (the free services are no longer available )
